During today’s session, we were given time to work independently on our zine and catch up on some work. I spent the session formatting my existential crisis shoot as I retook some of the images as I wasn’t happy with the images I took for the holiday SDS. I also finalised and finished the room pages where I ask my friends how they feel about this period in their life and I’m really happy with the outcome of these pages. At the end of the session, Carlyn took a look at my work and we had a conversation about how PR is maybe not the right choice for me, and Journalism is a better fit. I’ve always been interested and intrigued with studying Journalism but hate the idea of a degree and career where all I do is write. Carlyn reminded me that the course includes content creation, meaning I would be able to present my work in any format I want. Creating content such as my collages and video is what I enjoyed most about this assignment and feel it is where my strengths lie so I see why Carlyn feels it is a better fit for me. The PR tasks we’ve done have been enjoyable but not nearly as enjoyable as the content creation element. I need to do some research such as look at the two courses and see what we would be learning, looking at graduate’s work and potential careers.
