Week 4: PR Session:

Today was our final session focusing on PR. We began by looking at the Gucci Places event to inspire us and help lead us in the right direction. It was helpful to look at that event as I was struggling to come up with an event at the barbican that still stayed true to Dear Diary’s brand and aesthetic but I finally came up with a good concept. I wrote my PR proposal about my event and how it would be a nighttime event with a photo booth, editorial projections, free diaries, a giant diary where guests can write anonymous secrets and thoughts and live music. I feel very confident in the event I was able to come up with, a lot is going on but at least it will ensure guests will constantly be entertained. I felt it was necessary for the event to be invite only as it will ensure there will be hype around the release as potential readers will see their favourite influencers posting about a new zine, making it more desirable and exclusive. For the rest of the session, I finished my 6 SDS social media squares and worked on my invitation. I had a talk with Suzanne and talked about my event and she said it sounded good and gave me a few pointers so I felt confident after our talk. I also showed her my zine so far and my video and her praises were reassuring as I was afraid my zine was looking a bit too over the top and like a little girl’s diary but she disagreed and said it was the right amount of excessive. She also recommended me a photographer to look at, Elaine Constantine, as her work is similar to mine and I’m so glad she recommended her to me as I love her work and it inspired me a lot! I still have a lot of work to do like finish up my invite, my short film and do my press release so I need to time manage well over the next few weeks.
