Barbican Trip:

Today we took a trip to the barbican to capture some images and videos for our zine as well as look at possible PR ideas for the release of our zine. Me, Bel and Isha began the day by exploring around the barbican looking for interesting locations for our pictures, videos and event. What I loved about this trip was being able to explore a new and interesting part of London. I did however struggle a bit with these tasks as the barbican has a complete opposite aesthetic as my zine so having to come up with images and videos that would fit my zine was quite hard. I like some of the images I came up with however I don’t love them enough to put in my zine. When I imagined a PR event for my zine, I pictured it in somewhere like Shoreditch, but I realise that’s the whole point of the task, especially as a PR student I have to be able to come up with interesting concepts and ideas given any location or circumstance. I spoke to Carlyn whilst we were at the barbican about my struggles and she reminded me that PR events are so much more than events where people stand around and socialise. I then began brainstorming ideas such as projecting my editorials onto the big concrete walls or using the resident’s rooms as it ties into the personal feel of my zine. What I enjoyed about this trip is not the content I was able to get out of it but how it challenged me to think critically, creatively and outside of my comfort zone.
